Web Connect

How to define web connect settings

With the Web Connect dialog you can define settings for viewing your data from a web browser or other software such as Excel.
  • 1) The Server Port is the port number number the server will listen on for external connections. There are several standard port numbers in use so please choose a number outside of the standard range, this is typically between 49152 and 65535.
  • 2) The IP Address Constraint field is used to limit access to specific IP Addresses. For example, you may want to enter the IP for your computer, also known as localhost, to only allow viewing access to your data from your computer. This would be accomplished by entering 127.0.0.1 in the IP Address Constraint field. This field is evaluated as a java regular expression so please refer to the regular expression documentation for additional examples and syntax requirements.
  • 3) The Enable Server setting is used to enable or dissable the web connection server.

Viewing the information from an external interface

* From a Web Browser
1) Open your web browser and type in the address field http://127.0.0.1:50001/
2) Select Apply after enabling which folders you want to view the data from. You can toggle on Href within the Hyperlinks options to have a hyperlink to the Location and Path field result values.
* From Microsoft Excel
1) Open Excel
2) Select From Web from the Data tab
3) Enter http://127.0.0.1:50001/ in the address field of the import dialog
4) Select Apply after enabling which folders you want to extract the data from. You can toggle on Excel within the Hyperlinks options to have a hyperlink to the Location and Path field result values.
5) Select import from the Excel dialog after highlighting the checkbox of the results table by clicking on it. View information on the internet if you are not familiar with importing data to Excel from the Web import interface.
6) Follow the additional prompted dialogs provided by Excel for the data placement
* All examples assume you are connecting from your computer with the port setting as 50001. To connect to your data from a different computer you will need to replace the 127.0.0.1 with the computer's IP Address that you are trying to connect to.
